Welcome New Decade….(From my archives 2010)

FROM MY ARCHIVES: December 2010 At the start of this decade….the Y2K scare… people were preparing for the end of the world  – the shelves were bare! Then Millenium struck at 00h00 on 01.01.00 with much ado… and the earth stilll turned….and life went on…what else were we supposed to do? We were all hooked on “The tribe has spoken” Reality TV dawned with Survivor, Big Brother, The Osbournes, The Kardashians, And here we are now, still glued to our TV’s clearly the spell is far from broken. With hips gyrating Beyonce bounced onto the scene, Belting out “I’m a survivor!” For little girls, grannies and every woman in between Then came a grim day as we sat watching on TV As that plane flew into the twin towers on September 11, 2001 Death, pain, misery But the war on terrorism still wages on… does anyone out there know who won? Then JK Rowling introduced us to Harry Potter and his Hogswarth crew Mad cow disease in 2003 made sure meat-eaters were few Mother Nature showed her force in 2004 The Tsunami killed many as the waves crashed the shore. Hurricane Katrina followed in 2005 While in SA we sang Doo be doo be doo be doo – grateful to be alive! To “Rehab” Amy Winehouse refused to go, Kanye West sang “Golddiggers” were a No-No 2006 was a bad year for Nandos & KFC Bird flu made all the customers flee! Next virus to hit was the Swine flu Where all these germs came from – no one had a clue. The financial crises and credit crunch rocked the world in 2008 But when Barack Obama said “Yes we can” Black people around the globe had reason to celebrate! Beyonce sang “if you want it then you got to put a ring on it”! Steve Harvey said “Act like a lady, think like a man”, another book says “He’s just not into you” Katy Perry “kissed a girl and liked it” Now there’s a movie saying “eat, pray, love” One thing is clear – relationships in this decade are STILL complicated! Before this decade these things we did not see Digital cameras, Blackberry, iPods, iPads, GPS, PDAs and HDTV! We’ve traded our floppy disks for USB flash drives Traded xmas stockings for 1TB external hard drives Even a new language us oldies still can’t quite get GF’s, BF’s, LOL, LMAO, BRB, WTF! – have you had enough yet? We don’t go for coffee or even for a walk Now we sms, mms, blog, skype but hardly ever TALK! Technology advanced at such a pace Google, Yahoo!, Youtube, iTunes, Twitter, Facebook – what a race! Some movies from this decade – Shrek, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Da Vince Code, Slumdog Millionnaire, Ice Age, Entertainment overload – can’t wait to see what next year brings! Michael Jackson is now doing the moonwalk in the sky And now we all know that Tiger Woods really loves Pie! Don’t touch me on my studio, don’t be Jujjerag, you bloody agent, Ayoba The words and phrases of this decade we will be using over and over! Now closer to home, in Athlone to be specific at 11h50 the Twin cooling towers disappeared in a flash, most of us missed it but Those who saw it go down said it was terrific. We made the circle bigga and showed dem in 2010 – We hosted the best ever Soccer World cup – Waving the SA flag proudly again and again! I don’t know what the next decade holds for me and you But I pray that in the next 10 years our troubles will be few. May laughter, love and blessings fill each and every day, And may you not forget to stop…and Thank God along the way. Find what makes YOU happy! Find what makes YOU shine! It’s not too much to expect the caviar, long-stem roses and wine! Make your mark, leave a legacy, just say “enough!” of all the pettiness and jealousy Step up your game, get your 5 minutes of fame! At the end of the day…you only have yourself to blame! Have a fabulous 2011, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2020!!
